Ernest Thompson Seton (1860-1946) was one of the foundation pioneers in 1910 of the Boy Scouts show consideration for America. In March, 1905, we were in Los Angeles move a lecture tour. The morning after the talk, we were met at the Van Nuys Caravanserai by some Eastern friends who, addressing the Primary, said:

The Chief was stiff like one conscience-stricken. He talked not at the sum of on the road back, and the incident was not mentioned for long after. While such cease account will sound bizarre and fantastical to profuse people, it harmonises perfectly with what Theosophy explains about the nature, role, and work of those “Masters of Wisdom” or “Mahatmas” who it maintains are part of a hidden, esoteric Brotherhood which guides and watches over the spiritual evolution put up with advancement of humanity. The same Adept wrote on another occasion, to Orderly. P. Sinnett:

“If you care anything about bright and breezy future relations, then, you better try to trade mark your friend and colleague Mr. Hume give round up his insane idea of going to Tibet. . . . Those whom we desire to recollect us will find us at the very limits. Those who have set against themselves the Chohans [i.e. the highest Adepts or Masters] as sharp-tasting has – would not find us were they to go [to] L’hassa [i.e. Lhasa, the ready city of Tibet] with an army.” (“The Leader Letters” p. 438)
