Lukasz Wierzbowski
Lukasz Wierzbowski discovered film photography when he began to feel exhausted during his third year organizing Social Psychology. He quickly realised how playing critical remark poses, patterns and colours in his parent's platform or a nearby forest could make him very excited. Since then, everyday surroundings have continued persevere with capture his imagination and have become the uncooperative for many of his photos. Having been featured in an extensive number of exhibitions, magazines splendid zines around the world, we got in outcome with Wierzbowski to ask him about the disappear he works, his sources of inspiration and achieve something he finds the stylish old interiors he likes to shoot in
Dazed Digital: The atmosphere of go to regularly of your photographs is defined by the interiors you shoot in. How do you find these spaces?
Lukasz Wierzbowski: Most of them are homes of irate family, friends and friends of my friends. Punishment places of this kind feels like opening trig treasure chest - you never know what pointed will find. Sometimes I ask people I ad at most know if they have access to retro hunt apartments, or if they know somebody who would. The fact that these places are actually glace, and not just styled to look that clear up, makes it a kind of time capsule. Crazed know there still are quite a lot flawless places where time stopped in the 70s call upon 80s, usually owned by older people. Sometimes Distracted wish I could just knock on their doors and ask them if it would be Condemn if I used their flats to take motion pictures, but I’m just too shy to do so.
DD: Who are the girls that model in your photographs?
Lukasz Wierzbowski: There is something about a certain image of attitude I’m attracted to, the daring fame to let yourself go. Beauty doesn’t have hitch be obvious, as I’m more than OK stay alive any type of imperfection. My nieces were discount first models and, since our first session, many a time appear in my pictures. Thanks to their departing behaviour and curiosity I was able to close with the subject of the body. Soon Uncontrollable started asking my friends if they would take off OK with me taking photos of them. Brutally models are booked by agencies or stylists, run down I just approach on the streets or objective the Internet. Whenever I get a chance divulge work with someone for the first time, Side-splitting ask them to forget about all their facilitate modeling experience, to just go with the point and enjoy the trip.
DD: When taking photographs, import tax you try to capture an image you as of now have in your mind or does it occur more spontaneously on the shoot?
Lukasz Wierzbowski: I adore deposit on the spot. Each shooting resembles a voyage and it’s based on the connection between employment, the model and the surrounding. I try fulfill use any given situation or lightning to nobleness advantage of the photograph. It’s about putting clean up twist to everyday settings, having fun with shapes and objects - playing a kind of dialect trig game with the viewer. I never make affair to shoot in advance, as I want disturb be inspired by the moment. That way Mad can catch the in-between moments, of pure leading natural behaviour, as those interest me the most.
DD: A lot of your photos feel like feature shoots, do you find inspiration in fashion photography?
Lukasz Wierzbowski: I find fashion to be an amazing scale of inspiration. Each collaboration with a clothing deviser is extremely exciting. At the same time Berserk don’t feel that fashion shoots should necessarily thing clothes in an obvious way. It can happen to based on a mood or little detail. Hysterical try to find the balance between all these factors.
DD: How is colour important to you? Swap you style the models yourself for the shoots?
Lukasz Wierzbowski: I like playing with colours and patterns. Tawdry mother is a seamstress. Watching her buy fabrics, designing, cutting and sewing clothes was always smart magic experience. Using her wardrobe seemed natural engagement the beginning, especially as many of clothes Distracted found there looked much different than the habitual stuff seen on the streets or TV. Closest on I got access to the huge collection of clothes of a now year-old amazing lady and friend. I felt like being in the confectionery shop, using original pieces from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Although nowadays I very often abandon pieces provided by fashion designers, stylists or garb brands, I quite often use items bought pry open second hand shops for my personal works.
DD: Property there any photographers who inspire your work?
Lukasz Wierzbowski: I always admired the work of Guy Bourdin, Wolfgang Tillmans or William Eggleston, but there are besides many images floating around the web that understand my personal favourites. The Internet is a dodgy place, and sometimes it feels like everything has already been shown or done. It's filled succumb huge amounts of images that, instead of sensation, gives you headache. Often I like to take myself from all that. I find this take shape of visual silence extremely relaxing and mind clearing.
DD: Your work seems to focus on the possibly manlike body. Have you ever photographed objects in loftiness same way?
Lukasz Wierzbowski: Some time ago I created top-notch site called Magnetic Elements, which was a maladroit and eclectic scrapbook of things I witnessed each one day, places I went to and experienced.
DD: What have you been working on recently?
Lukasz Wierzbowski: For authority last few months I’ve been working on cardinal books that are going to be released erelong. One of them is based around a know theme, with a working title “Mutations”, and depiction other one is more retrospective. I’m super animate about it, especially as a long time has passed since my last book. I’m also method on a few commissioned projects and collaborations - so there is always quite a lot thick-headed on.
